COMTO Colorado awarded Chapter of the Year!

The Colorado Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) was selected as Chapter of the Year during the 2011 National Meeting and Training Conference in Philadelphia, PA last month. The Colorado Chapter was chosen out of more than 35 nationwide chapters to receive the prestigious award that recognizes the organization's dedication and commitment to the industry and its improvement of the overall effectiveness of COMTO as a professional organization.

A crowd of more than 300 transportation industry representatives and decision makers from across the nation gathered at the Industry Awards Gala on July 19 to celebrate and congratulate the Colorado Chapter on this esteemed accomplishment.

“We are thrilled to receive this type of recognition from COMTO National,” COMTO Colorado President Walter Bembry said. “We have a very dedicated group that has worked hard to make this chapter a successful organization. This award is for all of those individuals,” he added.

COMTO Colorado won the award based on several factors including its successful membership initiative over the last year, which increased the Denver-based chapter's membership by 75 percent. The chapter was also recognized for having raised more than $100,000 over the past five years for local minority and women students interested in pursuing careers in a transportation-related field.

The Colorado chapter will continue its fundraising efforts, networking opportunities and educational outreach in the year 2012, as well as playing host to next summer’s National Meeting and Training Conference.
